Robert W. Dilts (* 1955) is een ontwikkelaar, schrijver, trainer en coach in Neurolinguïstisch Programmeren (NLP) en is dat al direct bij het ontstaan een de eerste ontwikkeling ervan in 1975, toen John Grinder en Richard Bandler nog maar enkele jaren hiermee bezig waren. NLP is een model van menselijk gedrag, leren en communicatie.

Dilts heeft veel bijdragen geleverd aan de NLP, inclusief de optekening van de Encyclopedia of Systemic NLP. Hij is verantwoordelijk voor de inbreng van veel spirituele ideeën in de NLP.

Dilts is de schrijver van een zeer groot aantal boeken, inclusief Sleight of mouth over een set van taalpatronen voor veranderende overtuigingen, "Verander je overtuigingen, "Beliefs: Pathways to Health and Well-Being" met Tim Halibom en Suzi Smith en vele anderen. Hij is ook de voornaamste schrijver van NLP, Volume 1, met Richard Bandler, John Grinder and Judith DeLozier.

Logische niveaus

In de Unified Field Theory ontwikkelde Robert Dilts de logische niveaus van leren van Gregory Bateson verder uit, uit de cybernetica, ook wel systeemtheorie. Deze theorie beweert dat er 6 logische overtuigingsniveaus zijn, waarin we dingen leren en aannemen. Indien er een belemmerende overtuiging is op een bepaald niveau, dan kan dat invloed hebben op alle niveaus daaronder. Om een belemmerende overtuiging afdoende te verhelpen, zal men moeten werken aan de overtuiging op het betreffende niveau of erboven. Deze zijn in mate van belang:

  1. zingeving (of spiritualiteit)
  2. identiteit
  3. overtuiging
  4. vermogens
  5. gedrag
  6. omgeving
