Pukkelpop staat voor een jaarlijks terugkerend Belgisch muziekfestival.
Situering
De eerste editie vond plaats in 1985. Het festival gaat door in de tweede helft van augustus in Hasselt-Kiewit en duurt 3 dagen. Sinds enkele jaren telt de affiche meer dan 150 bands, met naast enkele headliners ook telkens een groot aantal minder bekende groepen.
Pukkelpop stelt een brede programmatie samen op een achttal podia: Main Stage, Marquee, Dance Hall, Boiler room, The Shelter (tot 2008 de Skate stage), Club, Chateau en sinds 2004 de Wablief-tent (met artistieke uitwisseling met het Zuid-Afrikaanse Oppikoppifestival). Tegenover de festivalweide (aan de andere kant van de Kempische Steenweg) is er een gratis, volledig uitgeruste camping (capaciteit 40.000 personen).
De organisatie is na al die jaren nog steeds in handen van de Humanistische Jongeren van Leopoldsburg met als uithangbord Chokri Mahassine.
Pukkelpop haalde al enkele jaren gemiddeld 130.000 bezoekers, maar de edities van 2009 en 2010 trokken 180.000 bezoekers. Het is daarmee een van de grootste muziekfestivals in de Benelux.
Medio februari 2011 raakte bekend dat de Stad Hasselt de pukkelpopwei zal aankopen voor 2,6 miljoen euro.
Polsslag
Sinds 2008 organiseert Pukkelpop ook Polsslag. Dit indoor festival met gemiddeld ruim 10.000 bezoekers wordt in het voorjaar georganiseerd in de Grenslandhallen van Hasselt. Naar aanleiding van het vijfentwintig jarig bestaan van Pukkelpop in 2010 vindt Polsslag dat jaar niet plaats. Ook in 2011 is er geen Polsslag.
