Eltjo Haselhoff

Eltjo Haselhoff (9 oktober 1962) is het meest bekend als 'fingerstyle-gitarist' en componist, ofschoon hij zich ook op andere gebieden heeft geprofileerd, onder andere als kunstenaar (cartoons, karikaturen en olieverfschilderijen), wetenschapper (natuurkunde, biofysica, magnetische resonantie), gitaarbouwer, auteur en cineast.

Fingerstyle gitaar

Eltjo Haselhoff (1962) speelt gitaar sinds zijn achtste levensjaar en is 100% autodidact. Hij leest en schrijft geen muziek, ofschoon hij naast gitaar nog enkele andere muziekinstrumenten bespeelt. Als componist en "fingerstyle-gitarist" geniet hij internationale bekendheid. De fingerstyle is een geavanceerde gitaartechniek, waarbij de gitarist de melodie, de begeleidende akkoorden en de baslijnen tegelijkertijd moet spelen.

Haselhoff bracht in 2005 zijn debuut-cd uit, Fingerstyle Guitar Solos, onder het kleine label Peghead Productions. De muziek werd met name in de Verenigde Staten goed ontvangen, hetgeen al snel leidde tot een platencontract met het Amerikaanse label Solid Air, dat het album in 2007 opnieuw uitbracht. Het nummer Tap Your Other Foot! verscheen tevens als openingstrack van de compilatie-cd Acoustic Guitar Highlights, Vol. 5 (2006). Sindsdien arrangeerde hij nummers voor diverse Amerikaanse coveralbums, waaronder Cole Porter: Delovely Guitar (2007), een eerbetoon aan de beroemde Amerikaanse componist, Poppin' Guitars: A Tuneful of Sherman (2009), een cd met bewerkingen van muziek van de Sherman Brothers en A Guitar for Elvis (2010). Eind 2007 verscheen in de VS een nieuw soloalbum, Guitar Magic, waarvan de track Turkey In The Straw een prenominatie kreeg voor de Best Country Music Instrumental Performance voor de Grammy Award 2008. Tevens verschenen in dat jaar een Nederlandse en een Duitse dvd met een cursus fingerstylegitaar. De Engelse versie daarvan verscheen in 2009, evenals de Nederlandse les-dvd Gitaarlessen voor Kerstmis, in samenwerking met zijn Nederlandse collega's Harald Koll en Hans Laduc. In 2012 verscheen een dubbel-dvd met gitaarlessen voor beginners, met de titel Iedereen kan GITAAR spelen!. In 2013 verscheen zijn boek Gitarologie, een kennisboek voor gitaristen, dat in detail uitlegt hoe gitaren hun geluid produceren en hoe dit geluid het best opgenomen kan worden.

Graancirkels

Haselhoff is tevens auteur van verschillende publicaties op het gebied van graancirkels, waaronder de bestseller The Deepening Complexity of Crop Circles, dat in vijf talen verschenen is. Hij is verschillende jaren voorzitter geweest van de Nederlandse tak van het internationale Center for Crop Circle Studies (CCCS) en ontving in 2001 als eerste de Frontier Science Award voor zijn onderzoek aan graancirkels. Haselhoff is doctor in de fysica en heeft op basis van metingen de lichtboltheorie uitgewerkt. Zijn theorie luidt, kort gezegd, dat sommige graancirkels ontstaan in de aanwezigheid van lichtbollen, die elektromagnetische straling uitzenden. Haselhoff laat in zijn studie in het midden of de lichtbollen een natuurverschijnsel zijn of een bovenzinnelijke of buitenaardse oorsprong hebben.

Vanuit de kringen van de Nederlandse vereniging van sceptici Skepsis werden zijn activiteiten scherp bekritiseerd.
