Thomas Stearns Eliot

Thomas Stearns Eliot (Saint Louis (Missouri), 26 september 1888 – Londen, 4 januari 1965 was in een in de Verenigde Staten geboren dramaturg, dichter en literair criticus die een Brits staatsburger werd in 1927. Hij stond mee aan de wieg van de modernistische beweging in de literatuur en is een van de meest invloedrijke dichters van de 20e eeuw. De Nobelprijs voor de Literatuur werd hem in 1948 toegekend. Hij is tevens drager van de English Order of Merit en de U.S. Medal of Freedom.
