Matthew George Easton (Nethanfoot, Lanarkshire, Schotland,[1] 3 juni 1823[2][3] – Darvel, East Ayrshire, Schotland, 27 februari 1894) was een Schots predikant en schrijver.

Leven

Hij studeerde aan de Universiteit van Glasgow,[4] behaalde zijn M.A. (Master of Arts) in 1843 en doctoreerde in 1874 in de theologie (D.D.; Doctor of Divinity) met zijn biografie van Krummacher.[4][5] Hij werd voorganger van de gereformeerde presbyteriaanse kerk van Schotland in Girvan.

Zijn bekendste werk is Easton's Bible Dictionary, dat drie jaar na zijn overlijden werd uitgegeven. Zijn andere werken omvatten Engelse vertalingen van Duitstalige werken.

Familie

Hij trouwde in 1849 met Anne Dobbie (1827–1904). In het gezin werden zes kinderen geboren: David (1850),[6] Isabella Colts (1852),[7] Lockhart Dobbie (1854),[8] Matthew George (1856), [9] Thomas (1859)[10] en Mary Lang (1862).[11]

George Easton werd begraven op de begraafplaats Darvel Old Cemetery, East Ayrshire, Schotland.[12] In 1904 werd ook zijn echtgenote Anne Dobbie in dit graf bijgezet, en in 1919 hun oudste zoon, David.[3]
